Christofle - A silver-plated double "Laque de Chine" Art Deco candelabra

A beautiful double candelabra from the French silver house Christofle, Paris. This silver-plated candlestick from the Laque de Chine series combines Art Deco with the age-old, almost extinct art of "Chinese lacquering". The juice of the Rhus vernicefera plant is extracted and applied in many layers to an underlying surface. This is an intensive and time-consuming process, which makes it an art that is becoming ever more rare. The resulting material, however, has a look that is undeniably elegant and is almost impossible to replicate with more modern techniques.

The candlestick is in excellent condition and fully marked on the base: [O-Scales-C] [CHRISTOFLE FRANCE] [I-Chess Piece-O] on one side and "Laque de Chine" on the other.
