Antique Christofle Serving Fork - France, period 1862-1914
This antique serving fork can be dated to the period between 1860 and the beginning of the First World War. The octagonally shaped handle with two transverse lines. The entire piece is silver plated, including the teeth of the fork. An early production by Christofle that seemed to be ahead of its time in terms of design.
In very good condition, with minor scratches and oxidation of the silver here and there. The bottom of the back of the handle has a worn spot of approximately 4 mm.
The handle bears a rare mark from the 19th century of a diamond in a square, containing a bee under the typical Christofle scales. Beside the initials C.C. This mark for silver-plated objects was only used in the period 1860-1914. Beside the letters [CHRISTOFLE]. The fork itself is marked [C-Scales-C] for Charles Christofle/Christofle et Cie. and [CHRISTOFLE]
