WMF - Sauce ladle (18cm) - Series 900 Fächer Muster - Art Deco, period 1925-1930

A silver plated sauce ladle by WMF, from the Art Deco series called "900 Fächer Muster"" . The spoon dates from the second half of the 1920s. Beautifully decorated with a fan pattern. The piece comes from one of the first editions of this series(including swallow wings at the top of the handle) .

The piece is in good, slightly used condition - with slight scratches due to use, appropriate for its age.+

Already in the first years of the 20th century, the German WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) - with its factory in Geislingen an der Steige - had acquired a leading position as a producer of household metal products. With designer Albert Mayer at the helm as director and head of the WMF Art Studio, the company made a name for itself manufacturing items in Jugendstil. When this style slowly but surely made way for Art Deco after the First World War, the company was quick to pick up on the new influences.

Released in 1925, the 900 Fächer Muster model is a beautiful example of early Art Deco. The fan pattern is instantly recognizable. The pearl motif at the bottom, the ornament above and the small swallow wings at the end of the stem are iconic. No wonder WMF has once again started production of the pattern in Cromargan steel.
