Silver Carving Set - .800 silver - likely Wolfers Frères, c. 1920
A deeply patinated .800 silver carving set in its original case, purchased in a distant past at Maison Tilquin in Antwerp. The parts are decorated in the Empire style; stylized as a fluted column with volutes, a vertically hanging festoon and acanthus leaf.
The marks have faded over the years, but at least the mark [800M] can be made out. This traces its origin back to Belgium between the years 1862 and 1943, although we suspect that this set dates from around 1920. The word [..res] is still half legible. Blades marked [Paris] and [Acier]. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was not uncommon for Belgian silversmiths to import blades or raw materials from abroad (mainly France and Germany).
The cutlery shows some traces of age; tiny pits in the handles are present. The blade is still made of (non-stainless) steel, which confirms its age. A very authentic set.
The blades can be further polished on request.
