WMF - Art Nouveau Fish Servers - N.29 "Efeu" - Jugendstil - Germany, c. 1903
A sublime pair of serving cutlery for fish dishes in Jugendstil. The model, N. 29 "Efeu" was designed in 1903 by Albert Mayer for the WMF Art Studio, and is characterized by very detailed engravings of leaves, ranks and berries. It is one of the most iconic patterns from the Art Nouveau period.
Marked on the back with "I/O", one of the WMF markings at the beginning of the 20th century.
Already in the first years of the 20th century, the German WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) - with its factory in Geislingen an der Steige - had acquired a leading position as a producer of household metal products. With designer Albert Mayer at the helm as director and head of the WMF Art Studio, the company made a name for itself manufacturing items in Jugendstil. When this style slowly but surely made way for Art Deco after the First World War, the company was quick to pick up on the new influences.
