Antique Pavillion with statue in Slate, Gilded Brass and Spelter - France, 1875-1900

This antique decorative pavilion features fluted columns in dark spelter, their bases and capitals in gilded brass. The pediment in onyx with a gilded detail. Standing in the middle of the platform is a statue of a Gallic warrior in Roman attire, an expression of both French national history as well as an admiration for classical Antiquity. Dating circa 1875-1900.

The piece was most probably one of two side pieces to a pendulum clock, but stands as a good decorative piece on its own.
