A Louis XVI-style Silver Plated Tea- and Coffee service - Roux Marquiand - France, c. 1919
An antique silver plated coffee and tea service in the Louis XVI style. The set was made after the First World War (c. 1919) by the French silversmith Roux Marquiand. The pitchers are beautifully decorated with garlands, bows, and floral details. The sugar bowl with an inside of vermeille (gilded silver). The handles are seperated from the pots by disks of ivory, so that the heat from the tea and coffee cannot reach the handles.

The pieces are marked on the bottom with [R-Star-M] for Roux Marquiand, Lyon. This silversmith was founded in 1876, and soon grew into a company of about 100 employees. After the First World War, the focus was on Neoclassical models, but after 1920 the company focused on the Art Deco style, which then became fashionable. The company supplied many prestigious French addresses. Around 1960 it created silverware for Hermes.
In very good condition. The coffee pot has a small dent in the body between two legs (see the second-to-last photo.)
