A Japonesque Silverplated Coffee pot - Mappin Brothers, London c. 1860
An antique and peculiar silver plated coffee pot in the Japonesque manner, with a gridwork of crosses and geometric shapes filled with patterns of horizontal lines. The piece was made by the Mappin Brothers of London around 1860. This firm was the precursos of the later famous Mappin & Webb, one of Britains most acclaimed silversmiths providing pieces even to the Royal family. The lid is topped by a finesly chisseled flower bud surrounded by leaves.
