10 Silver Plated Dinner Place Settings - Chinon - Charles Halphen, c. 1895
A set of ten antique silver-plated dinner place settings, dating from around 1895. These cutlery pieces are executed in the classic French pattern Filet (also called "Chinon") and manufactured by the silversmith Charles Halphen. Halphen was a business partner of Charles Christofle in the 19th century, and the company was run by his wife after his death in 1867. The company was finally incorporated under the Christofle company in 1890, although Halphen's name continued to be stamped on silver-plated cutlery until about 1920. These parts are typical 19th century, fairly large in size, the spoons with a flat edge of the spoon bowls. This detail disappeared around the beginning of the 20th century.
Consisting of:
- 10 dinner spoons (21cm)
- 10 dinner forks (20.7cm)
The cutlery is in good condition. The forks are slightly worn on the back of the tines.
All pieces marked on the back with [ALFENIDE][Goat's head in diamond - flanked by the numbers 84][HALPHEN]
