Gero, Georg Nilsson - Silver Plated Art Deco Cutlery Canteen - Nordique - 85-piece/12-pax. - the Netherlands, 1952-1958
An Art Deco canteen of silver plated cutlery - manufactured by the Dutch company Gero in the period 1952-1958 and designed by Georg Nilsson. The smooth handles of the pieces are executed in a sleek pattern. Although the Art Deco style was certainly on the wane in the 1950's, the Nordique pattern remained popular throughout the 1950's. Gero continued to produce it until 1958. The set is suitable for 12 table guests and consists of a total of 85 pieces, namely:
- 12 dinner spoons
- 12 dinner knives
- 12 dinner forks
- 11 starter/breakfast spoons
- 12 starter/breakfast knives
- 12 appetizer/breakfast forks
Serving pieces:
- Ladle
- 2 gravy spoons
- 2 serving spoons
- 2 potato spoons
- Carving set (cutting knife + carving fork)
- Rice spoon
- Knife sharpener
- Cheese slicer
- Fish serving scoop*
- Meat fork*
*The fish serving scoop and the meat fork are made by Sola. These are not originally part of the set, but are included because they fit nicely with the whole. For the missing starter/breakfast spoon, we will include a suitable replacement.
The cutlery is in good, slightly used condition. This wear is limited by small scratches from use, and some discoloration (oxidation) of the silver layer. The canteen is in good condition for its age and fully functional.
The top of the canteen bears a plaque with "Gero Zilvium".
All pieces marked on the back with [GN for Georg Nilsson][Letter][Gero][90].
